Sr. Benefits Specialist

General Position Summary

Administers benefit plan options for associates and sales force effectively. Serves as a point of contact to plan participants to ensure understanding of benefit plan options and any service issues with vendors.

We are currently searching for a Sr. Benefits Specialist to resolve routine and complex inquiries and requests made by associates in a timely manner by thoroughly researching, investigating and resolving the issues(s). We are looking for someone to:  

  • Coordinate disability benefit payments through vendor and payroll to ensure participants are paid correctly and timely; Track ongoing activity and facilitates return to work efforts with management team. 
  • Administer benefit plans by processing payments to beneficiaries as needed.  Report monthly activity to Actuary for funding.
  • Audit and ensure information is correct for enrollment and billing purposes. Research and correct discrepancies in necessary systems and with carriers.
  • Compile data from vendors to accurately allocate benefit expenses. Process payments to all benefit vendors in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure missed premium payments are communicated and collected from associates.
  • Assist in gathering necessary data for retirement distributions and annual audits.
  • Conduct group communications to educate beneficiaries on how the plans works, including benefits, cost sharing, and levels of coverage.
  • Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality in accordance with the expectations established by your supervisor and WoodmenLife policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Ability to work overtime as assigned by management.

We need someone who has:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of customer service education/work experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating a passion for helping customers, friendliness, patience, effective listening and ability to build effective relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate information to others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using Windows Office (excel, word, PowerPoint.) 
  • Proficiency in Excel to include use of formulas, proper formatting, PivotTables and VLookup functions.
  • Is flexible, adapts to changes, deals with ambiguity, and changes plans/focus to meet demands of the situation. 
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to learn new systems and procedures.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctively.
  • Ability to work with a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team to achieve goals and provide excellent service.
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work in order to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, sensitivity and professionalism.
  • The ability to provide seamless, trustworthy, attentive and resourceful (S.T.A.R.) customer service.
  • Engages well with others and are passionate about providing an exemplary customer experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in health, disability and retirement plan administration.
  • Previous Lawson (HRIS) experience.
